Inventory Policies for a Make-to-Order System with a Perishable Component and Fixed Ordering Cost

چکیده
We consider a make-to-order production system where two major components, one nonperishable (referred to as part 1) and one perishable (part 2), are needed to fulfill a customer order. In each period, replenishment decisions for both parts need to be made jointly before demand is realized and a fixed ordering cost is incurred for the nonperishable part. We show that a simple (sn, S1 n , S 2 n) policy is optimal. Under this policy, S 2 n along with the number of backorders at the beginning of a period if any and the availability of the nonperishable part (part 1) determines the optimal order quantity of the perishable part (part 2), while (sn, S1 n) guide when and how much of part 1 to order at each state. Numerical study demonstrates that the benefits of using the joint replenishment policy can be substantial, especially when the unit costs are high and/or the profit margin is low. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. One-for-One Period Policy and its Optimal Solution
In this paper we introduce the optimal solution for a simple and yet practical inventory policy with the important characteristic which eliminates the uncertainty in demand for suppliers. In this new policy which is different from the classical inventory policies, the time interval between any two consecutive orders is fixed and the quantity of each order is one. Assuming the fixed ordering cos...

This paper deals with an i * Corresponding author Email address: nventory system with one central warehouse and a number of identical retailers. We consider perishable-on-the-shelf items; that is, all items have a fixed shelf life and start to age on their arrival at the retailers. Each retailer faces Poisson demand and employs (1, T) inventory policy. Although demand not met at a retai...
متن کاملCoordinating Inventory Control and Pricing Strategies for Perishable Products
We analyze a joint pricing and inventory control problem for a perishable product with a fixed lifetime over a finite horizon. In each period, demand depends on the price of the current period plus an additive random term. Inventories can be intentionally disposed of and those that reach their lifetime have to be disposed of. The objective is to find a joint pricing, ordering, and disposal poli...
متن کاملOptimal Ordering and Issuing for Perishable Inventory Management Problem with A Minimum Inventory Volume Constraint
We study a perishable inventory system that requires to maintain a fresh and large quantity of inventory at all times. For example, certain pharmaceuticals are kept for emergency preparedness and response operations. We aim to maximize the profit by optimizing the joint problem of the ordering and issuing policies while maintaining a minimum amount of perishable inventory. First, we consider a ...

Due to the rapid development of technology in recent years, market competition and customer expectations have increased more than ever. In this situation, it is vital for businesses survival to determine the appropriate policy for inventory control, pricing, and routing, and decisions regarding each of them are often made separately. If the products have a perishable nature, it will be more imp...
